Advice in America by Kyra Kelly
Advice is an opinion or recommendation offered to help someone. For instance if one of your friends came up to you and said, "I have I big speech tomorrow and I need someone to listen to it and tell me if it's good enough." They're basically asking you for advice. If someone asks you for advice you should be honest but kind.
One time I asked my mom for advice on a picture I had to draw for school of a log cabin. My sketch had really tiny logs that looked like stones and my mom said, "To be honest, I think I think you should make the log the whole way across the cabin." I liked the idea and I used it. Guess what, my teacher liked it too!
When someone gives you advice, decide if it is good for you to follow. It's always helpful to get others' ideas when making a big decision. Everyone makes mistakes, so take my advice and learn from yours!

Julia Advice story USA
Mary knew it would be the worst school year ever. She had moved from her school in Maryland, where she had many friends, to New York, where she knew no one and was afraid to talk to unfamiliar kids. On top of that, she was constantly fighting with her older sister Kate.
On her first day at Washington Elementary, Mary walked to the bus stop alone, ten minutes before Kate to avoid an argument. There were a lot of girls her age standing there, but they barely glanced at her. She liked it that way. Since the bus was so full, she couldn't sit alone. She was forced to sit by a girl who looked like she was in fourth or fifth grade. Mary hoped the girl wouldn't talk to her. She pretended to be reading a book.
When she got to school, she found the office and the secretary walked her up to her classroom. "This is Mary," the secretary told the students. "She's your new classmate." Some of the kids just stared at her; some of them smiled and said "Hi, Mary!" and some of them waved. Mary quickly sat down in the only empty desk, next to the girl she sat with on the bus.
"Hi, I'm Natalie," the girl said politely, "Where are you from?" "Maryland", Mary muttered. "Wow, that's far away!" Natalie exclaimed. "If you need any help, finding certain rooms or anything, just ask me, okay?" Mary nodded. She could tell that Natalie was trying to be her friend, ad she could use someone to talk to. "At lunch time, could you show me where the lunch lines are and where you get your straws and stuff?" asked Mary. "...And maybe save me a seat?" Natalie nodded happily.
At lunch, after getting a tour of the cafeteria from Natalie, she sat with Natalie and her friends Samantha and Lisa. She talked to them for a while, and found out that Natalie liked her favorite movie, Samantha was in the school chorus and volunteered to get Mary an audition, and Lisa listened to the same music. Like magic, she had three new friends.
When she got home, she decided to call a truce with Kate. "How was your day, Kate?" she asked.
"Fine," Kate mumbled.
"Do you like your teacher?" Mary asked hopefully.
"Why do you care?" Kate said coldly.
"I care because I'm your sister, and I'm tired of fighting," Mary declared.
"So am I," Kate replied. "We should try to get along."
"Okay," Mary smiled. "I'll try."
Mary solved all her problems by overcoming her shyness and talking to people and she discovered that after a few minutes she felt more comfortable.
